- Subject: [IML] QUEST: Edimator Help!!!!!!
-
- Hi All
-
- I wonder if anyone can help me, I am totally frustrated!!! I have put
- together a 5min sequence of video and audio in ULead Media Studio 2.5. It
- took nearly 35hours to compile on a pentium 200 with 98 megs on board. The
- resulting file is 780 meg 720 x 540 rendered using the Radius Cinepak codec
- and keeping the audio at 22.5 16bit stereo. This file is then imported to
- the edimator with zero compression, another 3-4 hours!!!
-
- The problem is that when I play back the movie from the edimator, the
- visuals are fine but the audio is appalling, with what sounds like a lot of
- phase distortion and is plays back SLOW i.e. out of sync with the Video.
-
- I have experimented with a 320 x 240 version and this plays fine as an AVI
- from windows 95, good visuals and sound.
-
- Does anyone have any ideas?

- First of all, I'm about 99.9% sure that it is not an edimator problem but an
- options setting that isn't correct in ULead. I haven't used ULead in a while
- but I have successfully exported overscan video back and forth to the
- Edimator with good synched audio from ULead2.5.
- .
- I might be wrong but I thought the full motion image size on the edimator
- was supposed to be 640x480. That gives overscan on the video I have produced.
- Perhaps someone else on the list can speak to that. If that is correct then
- your rendering size is too big.
-
- You may have to re-render your project. On the bright size, it should take
- less time to render if you have to use the smaller 640x480. AGAIN, I could
- be wrong about the file size. Get a second opinion.
-
- IMPORTANT:
-
- After you've selected the codec you have the option of setting the key
- frame. It defaults to to 15 frames. Try changing that to 1 frame and
- rendering out a few seconds worth of an area that has audio you can check
- and then send that back to the edimator.
-
- Also, be sure to set the data type 24-bit in ULead I think it defaults to
- 8-bit (that's not for the audio but for the image.)
-
- I suggest experimenting with the various audio preference settings until
- you get the sound quality YOU WANT when played and imported back to the
- Edimator, but I wouldn't compress the audio unless you don't have enough
- storage space.
-
- LASTLY:
-
- Most of have learned through trial and error never to render out a big
- project file until you have successfully rendered a representative test
- section of that big project.

-
- Howdy.
-
- I am the proud owner of an Edimator board which has served me very well for
- getting animations directly from Imagine onto tape. Now the list seems to
- have it's fair share of programmers... so the question I put to you all is
- this:
-
- Is it possible to write an AVI co-dec for the Edimator so it can be used in
- Premiere, MediaStudio, and every other Non-Linear editing package out there?
-
- I love this card.. it does it's job very well and at very high quality.
- (Some stuff I have done with it is going to air on commercial TV across
- most of Australia) but the software is so basic. Trancer's Tranedit goes
- some way towards bridging the gap... but I'd love to see full support for
- this card.
-
- Anyway... if anyone has the answer to this or any other questions... PLEASE
- tell me!
-
- Thanks in advance..

- I don't know about writing a codec for the Edimator but it seems that
- someone by now would have written a codec for MJpeg format to work within
- Premiere. Anyone know if this is true?
